I am researching the short life of my Great-Uncle,Second Lieutenant William Holms,10th/11th Battalion,Highland Light Infantry, who died on Saturday 16 September 1916,aged 19.If there is anyone out there who can point me in the direction of specific information about Flers-Courcelette etc,I would be most grateful.

I have written to the Regimental Museum in Glasgow, but have not had a reply yet.

Mr William Holms, 38 Sardinia Terrace, Glasgow, has received a telegram from the military authorities informing him that his elder son, Second Lieutenant William Holms, HLI, has been killed in action. Lieutenant Holms, who was only 19 years of age, was educated at Glasgow Acamemy and Speir's School, Beith. He had recently begun his training in engineering at Messrs. Yarrows (Limited), Scotstoun. He was for eight months in the Inss of Court O.T.C., London, was gazetted last July, and sent to the front on 5th September

Thank you for your reply. Is this a copy of a newspaper report(Glasgow Herald maybe)?I have aquired my Great-Uncle's photo album, which begins in September 1915 and ends in August 1916.There are photos of him in training at Gailes in "D" Coy.9th Scottish Cadet Battalion and at Wormit in August 1916 plus other photos of his friends. If any of this would be of interest to the museum,I would be happy to send copies.

Do you have any information about the taking of Martinpuich by the 15th(Scottish)Division ?
