You all seem to have had a great time returning from Iraq by the sound of it If you ask any of the older guys that were in on our first stint at redfoed barracks they will tell you some story's that will put your good times to shame. (hee hee)That was the time when we as a battalion had our own pub in the town and control it well, was the time when lunch time was spent driving to edinburgh for a couple of pints and watching the go go dancers as they were just becoming the rage. I am sure there are a few of us out there that can remember this own up lads we were all the untouchables

Mr Robertson has a photo showing a Fus Burke - Fus Brown - Fus McKinnon the photo is dated 18 March 1960.

By Rab (Theguvnor216) on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 10:28 pm:

when we got deployed to belfast in 1992 on the emergency tour, i was in 9 platoon C Coy. we whre attached to 1 Para, and we where a hard platoon, it was the only time i felt at ease in the army, i mean, everyone could be relied on, everyone knew his job, and when we got back to cambridge we got disbanded, now before any of the PC brigade start shouting and bawling, we where a bunch of rogues ( we deserved all we got). but what a platoon, we would have faired better in somewhere like Aden, in the 60's, guess thats when the army was starting to change, no more rogues or hardmen, toy soldiers, i mean no disrepect to any serving men in the British Army at present

By Dave (Daviehowe) on Saturday, January 21, 2006 - 01:35 pm:

I know what you mean Rab. In Aden we had a Coy Comd court martialled and he was a character. After his court he went back to the SAS, as he said, to the real army. I was very proud to serve under him in Aden for a short spell. His son actually went on to command the Bn, in the 80's. People like him saw it changing but I saw it in the 70's. In my early service I was a bit of a rogue but in those days it was do the time and get on with life. Nothing was held against you after. Really different times.

i suppose Davie, and people might think i'm nuts ( a lot do), but in your day, the issue kit was pretty basic, like it or lump it, and omce you where wet, you stayed wet, look at it now, gortex, is wonderful, but, as well as making life more comfortable and easier, it must certain indivuals softer, i like reading about Aden, with Mad Mitch, he did nt take any SH-T-, they even through the GOC out of the Officer's Mess, the best Co i had was Winter's, he was of the same mould, the worse was Edwards, he was SAS, but alas, he made us wear G1098, all the time, a bit of a disapointment, did you know auld percy.

By John McC (Johnmccrimmon) on Monday, January 23, 2006 - 10:18 pm:

Rab (the guvnor) Did you know that the RHF marched through Crater in 1960-61 Pipe band playing Bayonets fixed. In 1962 the Btn had to send

men to the KOSB who were then in Aden, all before

Mad Mitch came on the scene. As for throwing anyone

out the mess, the HLI threw grenades INTO the officers mess in Cyprus a couple of before the

amalgamation.

By Rab (Theguvnor216) on Monday, January 23, 2006 - 10:56 pm:

reference your question last week about Percy. I was in B Coy in Cyprus in 1965 when Percy and a few others, I think wee Tam McAllister was one, arrived there from the depot. Percy was only a wee boy then but what a character. In those days B Coy was in Ktima and the camp was by the sea along what is now known as "Tombs of the Kings" Rd in Paphos.

Thoughts to his family

By John M (Johnmunro) on Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 04:35 pm:

Very Sorry tae hear about Billy Flash McCash. As like those already posted my thoughts go out to his family at this sad time. It just so happens I was thinking about Flash jist the other day. I remember when Charlie Company were doing Ballater 97 Flash came back to the lines a little worst for wear and decided to use Jimmy Johnston's bed as a urinal, but the bad thing about that was that Jimmy was sleeping in it at the time. Ohhhhhh Myyyyy Godddddddd. From that night on Flash was also known as Splash McCash aswell as Flash. A great Guy sadly missed.

Hello, Really need peoples help with this one I am looking for Willy McKeever who lived in Pollok in Glasgow in 1955. He was in the RSF with my Grandad and hes keen to find him. We know that he has a sister, but unfortunately don't know her name so that doesn't help. The only source of information i have is a photograph which I will try and post. When I say try I mean try as I'm not very good at posting pictures. If anyone can help please do. The slightest bit of information might be helpful to me for my latest search.

Thanks again Gemma.
