 | hallow Iain, Re Your Photograph of 2nd battalion RSF,And H,I,A Thompson I have a photograph Of C/Coy at Minden Barracks Penang Malaya 1955, And Harry Thompson was in temporary command of C/Coy at the time, He then went on to serve with 22 SAS in Kl, I last met and spoke to him at a SAS reunion in London 1965, The first man he asked for was his batman, The following year he was killed in a helicopter cash while Serving in Borneo with 22, There is a photograph of him at a fusiliers funeral, And i am standing mediately behind him, There is also the same photo on the Regimental website, In the photo section posted by me.[/quote] |

Good Morning Joe,
My hearty apologies for not getting back to you sooner. For some reason the forum didn't notify me of your post!
I will have a good look for the photo.
The research is going rather well and I am in the middle of translating a manuscript written by the owner of the chateau in Palingbeek a few days after the action, with many first hand accounts from the Germans who stayed in the area for a few weeks afterwards.
all the best

I have another lead!!!!
The 2Lt. McIntosh I am looking for might be a Canadian who also served with the 10th for a while.
He won the MC later on in the war.
Any info on him would be highly prized!! |

I hope so,
However I'm told that the Canadian "loan" officers didn't start till 1942, but there are always exceptions to every rule
I would love to know if he was signed up to the RSF in 1940. He doesn't appear in the 1939 records or McNeil-Cooks diary.
But he does appear in Livingstone-Bussell's diary and is listed as having commanded 16 Platoon in D Coy.
I'm hoping that perhaps John McIntosh is still alive and is happy to talk to me.
I have been in contact with both Major Livingstone and Major Wilmot and they were both gold mines of information! |
