Freedom of South Ayrshire for royal regiment troops

South Ayrshire Council will bestow the Honorary Freedom of South Ayrshire on The Royal Regiment of Scotland The Royal Highland Fusiliers 2nd Battalion, servicemen and women at a special ceremony on Wednesday 13 November 2013.

To mark the occasion, service personnel returning from their third tour of Afghanistan, will parade through Ayr town centre.

Speaking prior to the event Provost Moonie said: I am delighted that I will be presenting the Honorary Freedom of South Ayrshire to the soldiers, it is one way of showing our appreciation for all their hard work and the sacrifices that they and their families make.

I would encourage people to come to Ayr and see our brave service personnel parade through the town. Lining the streets and cheering on our troops is a great way to welcome the soldiers home after their latest tour of Afghanistan.

If you would like to turn out and support our troops here is the timetable:

11.30am; The parade will form up on Pavilion Road, it will include a brass band, and a military pipe band.

12 noon; The parade led by their Shetland pony mascot will march past the Cenotaph in Wellington Square, proceed through the town and salute at the Wallace Tower in Ayr.

12.15pm; Parade arrives at Ayr Auld Kirk for presentation ceremony.

1.15pm; Parade leaves the Ayr Auld Kirk and marches to Ayr Town Hall for a civic reception.
