So my cover has been blown !

Dunedin Chapter ,Scotland,Harley Owners Group decided to take two serving soldiers with us to the National Arboretum in Lichfield on an event called Ride To The Wall 2009. I volunteered to contact my old Regt using Sandy L as a go between. The RSM chose Sgt Jim Thompson and C/Sgt Jock McGhee as they were both bikers with licences.
Edinburgh Harley Davidson loaned them each a brand new bike, insurance and delivery to Glencorse in order for them to get used to the bikes.
The RSM arranged for the Chapter members who were leaving from the Edinburgh area to RV at Glencorse where we had a photo shoot /press call .We were [ approx 23 bikes ]met at the Guardroom and piped down to the square and met the TARA where we were all lined up . When it was time to leave we were again Piped out to " the Black Bear "
The look on the Jocks' faces was one of mystique and wonder !
We left the bks in convoy with our 2 guests and met up with 12 more bikes at Abington before heading South for a big party.
The Chapter also supported the cost of the Hotel for 2 nights for the boys.
Both Jim and Jock really enjoyed the run down and their first night . The next day we left at 0845hrs to meet the other 5,000 bikers at Drayton Park before heading to the main event at the National Arboretum.
We were paying tribute to fallen Servicemen and Women since the Second World War. It was a dignified ceremony with the attendance of the Commander 4 Div,Maj General L.Kirkland CBE who addressed us all, he arrived from Aldershot on his Harley Davidson ! well cool.
We also had an amazing triple fly past of a Spitfire. We had time to search out all of RHF names on the walls , i have photos of them with the boy's hopefully i can upload then for you all to see.
We then returned to the Hotel for a moment or two of contemplation at the Bar before we headed downtown that evening returning for a wee soiree at the bar later.
On Sunday we headed back to God's country with a wet and cold run North, but it did not dampen Jim and Jock's enthusiasm , that happened on Monday when they handed back the bikes.
A fantastic weekend for us and them -Haste ye back boys !!

JM

Excellent report there John and well done to all who took part. Bikers and good deeds do not often go hand in hand in human phsyche (sp) but your group certainly put paid to that assumption. I look forward to seeing the pics.

I know the love of your bike brings you to Glasgow (for it's 'check-up') on occasion, so I hope you can plan your next visit around when we have our Glasgow OCA disco nights so you can catch up with some old buddies. Laughing

More pics to come....I had a problem when it came to photo Rab Thomson's name , as there were 4 names similar with different middle initials and with a P or not ? it saddened me as his Pl Sgt i didna remember, so rather than offend with the wrong name i wont post this pics. Hope you understand.
J

Hi John,

Well done to you and the boys. Photos were excellent and it was a great gesture. You obviously left off the "home brew" for the journey. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hi John,

Looked like a good day out was had by all. It was nice that so many turned up to pay their respects.

If there are any budding entrepreneurs out there, it looks like there
could be a big market for "TARTAN" Leathers (unless someone already sells them?....)Laughing Laughing Laughing

Yours Aye
