Walter Moore (Wattie) born on 8th January 1943 and died on 19th November 2010. 1009 viewsWalter enlisted in the RHF on the 8th May1963, at his ‘Passing out’ parade; he won 3 cups,
best at PT, LMG and SLR. He joined the RHF in Iserlohn on 18/9/63 and after a period of
continuation training he joined the Recce Platoon until he joined the Pipes, Drums and Bugles
in 1966. Walter travelled the world with the band, doing a three month tour of North America
and Canada in 1966 and again to America in 1968, a 10 day British trade fair in Buenos Aires,
Argentina and an interesting trip to Ajaccio in Corsica where they were billeted with the French
Foreign Legion. After tours in Northern Ireland from the start of the troubles, Walter left the 1st Bn
for Civilian Street in 1974 and he settled in Inverness, being actively involved in the RBL Inverness
branch Pipe Band where he worked his way up to Drum Major. Attending his funeral were former
comrades from the RHF, especially his P&D’s comrades along with the RBL Pipe band & members.
“Wattie” will be sadly missed by family and all that knew him.
