As John Lennon said, “There are no problems, only solutions”; and, so it proved with our very first Walk the Walk with Bugle the Elephant, which got off to a bit of bumpy start, but was eventually judged to be something of a success and lots of fun!

Even the weather gods were on our side as the coach of intrepid walkers left the Museum, travelled to Largs and took to the high seas for the 8-minute ferry trip to the island of Great Cumbrae.

The Walkers all started off in great style on their three Walks: Assaye (10.25 miles), Blenheim (7 miles) & Inkerman (4 miles); and everyone completed their chosen route, finishing at the War Memorial in Millport, where all received a very smart medal! The fact that Inkerman proved to be, in fact, 5 miles, and Blenheim was a little less than 7 miles did not appear to upset anyone too much!

Members of the Royal British Legion Scotland Millport opened their doors to our weary walkers, laying on a very warm welcome and even more welcome buffet. We were all extremely grateful for their amazing hospitality and presented their Chairman with a Regimental slate for their collection.

There was a plenty of time to enjoy the delights of Millport – to buy “kiss-me-quick” hats and rock – before our weary walkers boarded the bus to retrace their steps to the Museum.

A huge thank you to all our walkers, who appear to have
raised a large amount of money for the Museum; although, we will not know how much for a little while yet – so, there is still time to contribute on our crowd-funding page (https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/walkingthewalk…)!

Bugle is keen to do another Walk next year – of course, he was carried around the island!
